About Felician Mission: Haiti

Praise the Lord! We thank our God for everyone who has prayed for and supported our efforts as we continue our journey in Jacmel, Haiti. We have been here since 2012 and so many good things have happened that we wanted to share a few stories with you! We live among the marginalized and those living in poverty, accompanying them through the challenges and celebrating the joys of life. Join us on our journey and please keep us in your prayers as we keep you in our prayers.

A drone over our property🤨

Today a drone appeared on our property. It circled for a moment, then hung in the air. It was obvious that it was filming or photographing. I grabbed the phone and took a picture of it. I had the impression that the operator saw me, because the drone immediately rose high and then flew off. I wonder what that means?

Making the Gospels come alive…

On Saturday, November 17, our faith formation classes were given stories to make the Word of God come alive. Each class told a Bible story…the Annunciation…

Martha and Mary and the raising of Lazarus…

The healing of the blind man…

We also welcomed a new teacher, Deacon Dickenson, from the Vincentian Brothers and Priests. Dickenson is a transitional deacon, soon to be ordained. He is preparing our teens for the Sacraments of Initiation.

Friday night at the movies…

Fridays are special days for our kids. School finishes for the afternoon kids at 3 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. The other special thing is that Friday is movie night. Tonight we showed ANNIE. Many years ago, in the 90’s at Immaculate Conception High School, I had the privilege to direct the play ANNIE. It was a talented cast and crew. I have many beautiful memories of that production!

Today we are showing the movie

The kids loved the movie in French!

Our kids love movie night with popcorn, of course!🤗

So blessed to have Jean Philip

There is never a dull moment in the mission. Today, we needed to pump water. Within a few hours, we had no water again. Somewhere water must running, leaking????!!

We asked Jean Phillip to put the pump on again to fill the tank, and that was when we noticed water flowing on the ground by the water tank. We turned off the water and started digging. The cap to the pipe was gone. We looked through the dirt, but no cap. It was now 3:17 p.m. and everything in Jacmel closes at 4:00 p.m. Jean Phillip ran to buy a cap.

You certainly do learn a lot about running a mission and repairing things.

…I have learned that whatever situation I find myself, to be self-sufficient.” Philippians 4:11

“…for I have learned, in whatever situation I find myself, to be self-sufficient. I know indeed how to live in humble circumstances…” Philippians 4:11-12

To walk in relationship with our Haitian brothers and sisters is a humbling experience. As we walk the streets and visit people in their homes, we hear again and again how they make do with what they have. They learn how to be self-sufficient in humble circumstances. We always say, that where we are, we can see the Kingdom of God, the face of Jesus in those made poor.

Pray for Haiti 🙏🏽🇭🇹

Hundreds of people across Haiti are protesting the alleged misuse of funds from an oil assistance program created by Venezuela.

Protesters blocked roads and burned tires on Wednesday as they demanded more transparency in how the government uses funds from PetroCaribe. The program provides below-market financing for oil for several countries in the region.

An investigation by Haiti’s Senate found that at least 14 former government officials allegedly misused $3.8 billion under the administration of former president Michel Martelly.

Protesters mobilized as Haiti commemorated the death of independence hero Jean-Jacques Dessalines. The protest comes three months after Haiti’s prime minister resigned amid widespread unrest following his failed attempt to increase fuel prices.

Jacmel and every other larger city is having big demonstrations also. Please keep Haiti and our dear people in your prayers.
