About Felician Mission: Haiti

Praise the Lord! We thank our God for everyone who has prayed for and supported our efforts as we continue our journey in Jacmel, Haiti. We have been here since 2012 and so many good things have happened that we wanted to share a few stories with you! We live among the marginalized and those living in poverty, accompanying them through the challenges and celebrating the joys of life. Join us on our journey and please keep us in your prayers as we keep you in our prayers.

…and now I am happy 😊

 I was hungry…

You gave me to eat.

I was thirsty…

You gave me to drink.

and now I am happy 😊!

Ti Jerry

Meet ti Jerry (little Jerry). He is one of our newest little boys who comes to the Mother Angela Kitchen.

Yesterday, Jerry got caught “pipi ing” on the property in front of our little dining area. We teach our kids that there is a place for them to relieve themselves that is private, not just anywhere (this is a common thing here in Haiti). After Jerry got caught, he was afraid he would not be able to eat; so he quickly took his food and hid underneath the table.

4th Week of Advent, and it’s beginning to sound, look, and smell like Christmas🎄💫🎁

We have been very busy, preparing for Jesus to celebrate His birth. We have been baking hundreds of peanut butter cookies, making packages for gifts, and filling over 200 bags with candy.  We are preparing, for the first time, a little Christmas pageant that will be presented before our Christmas Day Mass. It’s beginning to feel, look, and smell like Christmas 🎄!

A visit to Children’s Hope – Home for Children

On Saturday, December 10, we made a visit to Children’s Hope–Home for Children, where little Rosamita is now living. We prepared some toys, toothpaste and soap for the children, as well some things for little Rosamita. We wanted to see how she was doing. We tried to contact Christella to take her with us to see her daughter and the place where she is being given care. But Christella was nowhere to be found.

The first thing we were told was that Rosamita has started to walk. They said she began to walk during the weekly prayer service, and all gave praise to God. She looks beautiful, well cared for, and very happy. Our first impression of this home was confirmed–that she and all the other children are well cared for and loved.

Today was a real feeling of what Christmas is all about…love, joy and peace! 🎄💫🎁

Advent faith formation💫

Every Thursday, we have our faith formation program. We have three groups that meet in the evening and one group in the morning. For the past few weeks, we have been having trouble with our electricity. We were dependent upon the city for lights. Well, it seems as though every Thursday, we were without electricity. It made waiting during the Advent season even more meaningful.

On the feast of the Immaculate Conception, we shared the life of Mary the Mother of God, being called by God to be holy, born without original sin. We then gave our kids a challenge to be like Mary and give a gift to others as Mary gave freely the gift of her Son, Jesus to the  world.

Every child was given a bar of soap or a tube of toothpaste and toothbrush, a piece of wrapping paper and some tape. They were asked to wrap it as a gift and think of someone who is poor that they know. They all said I am; I want this gift; but…we said, “no” this is for someone who is poor, someone you may see everyday on the street in your neighborhood. It took awhile for them to understand that they were to give this beautifully wrapped gift away to someone–not their mother, father, sister, brother or anyone in their family–but to someone who would least expect a gift. They were to say, when they give the gift: “Jesus loves you! Merry Christmas!” The group in the morning returned after giving their gifts and shouted “Mission accomplished.” They shared the joy that the person showed when they received the gift.

After they finished wrapping their gifts,  they left by two’s singing in Kreyol: “Go, go, go people and walk together with Jesus.”🎄💫

Little Rosamita finds a home, Part 2

On Tuesday afternoon, Rosamita’s father came back as he had promised, with her birth certificate and health care records. We took him and Rosamita to meet with Henry, the director of Children’s Hope Home, at 4:30 p.m. As soon as we entered the compound, we experienced love, joy and peace. We were welcomed by the children, who were very happy, clean and, most of all, loved. There are 50 children who are in this home that was begun after the earthquake in 2010. They have healthcare facilities, a school nearby, and a large piece of land for the children to play, learn and grow. Every week, they have Sunday services on the property. Children’s Hope is the orphan ministry of First Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama. Based on James 1:27, it encompasses Foster Care, Adoption and Orphan Care. The mission of Children’s Hope is to engage the Church in carrying out God’s command to care for orphans.

Christella came to the house today and knew what had happened yesterday. We feel she does understand the situation and knows that Rosamita needs daily care and love. Please pray for both parents and little Rosamita.

Little Rosemita finds a home, Part 1

You may remember, from this past year, we shared a story about a 15-year-old teen, Christella, who had a baby girl a year ago in November. She named the baby Rosamita. During the year, Christella had tried to care for her baby, but there were many times Christella would disappear for days. She would leave little Rosamita with the father who could not care for her. We tried our best to care for the child’s needs, providing diapers, baby milk, clothes and other necessities. Sometimes these things would be missing, and we would find out they had been sold for money.

This past Monday, late in the afternoon, Rosamita’s father brought her to us in a panic, with tears in his eyes. He said he could not care for his daughter and would need to put her in a home that would care for her. Christella had once again left her baby with the father and had disappeared for a week. The baby was so hungry and dirty. Right away, we fed and bathed Rosamita. Her father was so stressed that we took her for the night so he could go to find work in the morning. For the first time, after being fed, bathed and cared for, little Rosamita was smiling and laughing. We made a few phones calls to people who help children in such situations, and we had an appointment with Children’s Hope Home for Children here in Jacmel the next morning.

Diocese of Jacmel Minor Seminarians learn English 😀

This is the second year that we are teaching the minor seminarians English. Last year, we had a group of twelve. They all have been accepted to the major seminary in Port au Prince.

This year, we have two seminarians. Father Valery, their director, is also taking classes. We have conversation, and then they work on the computers, using the Rosetta Stone program.
