“Days for Girls”

On Friday, June 9, Krysta gave a presentation twice to our girls. She presented the program “Days for Girls.” Sr. Inga helped with the translation.

Health. Education. Dignity. Ensure she has what she needs to succeed. Why “Days for Girls”? Every girl and woman has inherent worth and dignity. “Days for Girls” celebrates this by providing sustainable feminine hygiene solutions and health education. When girls and women have health, education and opportunity, communities and our world are stronger.

Using this program, Krysta provided education about their monthly period, sex risks, how you can get pregnant, as well as sharing points about self-esteem, respecting oneself and working together to support one another as teenagers and young women. At the end of the presentation, each girl received her own kit which provided pads that can be reused,  2 pairs of undergarments, and a bar of soap.

The Lord provides food for those who fear him…(Psalm 111:1-5) in the Mother Angela Kitchen

Psalm 111, v. 1-5

“Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly.

Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them.

Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever.

He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate.

He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.”

We welcome Sr. Victoria and Krysta to Jacmel

On Wednesday, June 7, Sr. Victoria returned to Jacmel with Krysta Forrester to share life in the Felician Mission in Haiti. Krysta is a Nursing student at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.

The first evening they arrived, we were blessed to have Mass in English with Fr. Yvan from the Diocese of Camden, NJ. Sr. Marilyn knew Fr. Yvan when he was in the seminary years ago.

Returning home means a lot of cleaning…

Praise the Lord, we returned to Jacmel on the feast of Pentecost. 🔥 Not being here for 6 weeks meant a dirty house after many rain storms. Thanks be to God, with the help of our friends, it didn’t take long for us to be in a clean house again. We also needed to get ready for volunteers to arrive in a few days.

Sharing the call to missionary discipleship!

For the past few weeks, we have been busy sharing the Haiti Mission with God’s people in Michigan, New Jersey, and Sulecin, Poland. We are grateful to the churches and schools that have invited us to share the work the Lord is doing with his people in Haiti.

We are in awe how all have embraced accompanying us in seeking to empower our Haitian brothers and sisters. We have recognized the Risen Lord in our midst.

First Holy Communion candidates prepare for examination

On Monday, April 17, Easter Monday, five of our kids, who have been preparing for their First Holy Communion, gathered for Mass in our chapel before they went to the Cathedral for their examination, seeing if they are ready to make their First Holy Communion in June.

After their examinations, they returned to the mission, feeling very good about themselves. We know that they are ready, and we look forward to their First Holy Communion here in our chapel in June.

Of course, we needed to have an Easter celebration with them…

Jezi leve byen Vivian! Alleluja! Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

Christ is Risen! Alleluia! He is truly Risen! Alleluia! We wish everyone a joyous and blessed Easter season as you walk with the Lord, who is with us always. We were blessed to have the traditional blessing of food on Holy Saturday as we waited in joyful hope for the Light of Christ to scatter all darkness. We celebrated at Sts. James and Phillip Cathedral this year since we had two of our community members receive the sacraments. Bishop Launay Saturne officiated at their sacraments.

Vilcia, the mother of two of our kids, desired to receive Communion and Confirmation. We supported her and helped make her journey with the Lord.

Junior is one of our teenage boys, who came to us a year ago, desiring to be baptized into the Catholic faith. He prepared diligently every week for his class.

It was a grace and blessing for us to watch Vilcia and Junior grow in the faith and come to this joyous day of embracing the Lord Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

O God, who make this most sacred night radiant with the glory of the Lord’s Resurrection, stir up in your Church a spirit of adoption, so that, renewed in body and mind, we may render you undivided service. Though our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.  (Collect for for Easter Vigil Mass)
