About Felician Mission: Haiti

Praise the Lord! We thank our God for everyone who has prayed for and supported our efforts as we continue our journey in Jacmel, Haiti. We have been here since 2012 and so many good things have happened that we wanted to share a few stories with you! We live among the marginalized and those living in poverty, accompanying them through the challenges and celebrating the joys of life. Join us on our journey and please keep us in your prayers as we keep you in our prayers.

Chikungunya

Twice this week, we visited people in our neighborhood who have chikungunya, caused by a mosquito bite. Most of our kids and their parents have, or have had, a fever together with achy joints and muscles. It usually lasts for three days. There are some cases that are severe and last longer. Medication that relieves the pain and fever is Tylenol. You can protect yourself by using mosquito spray, but this is not accessible to our people.

VIMsters experience Felician College Core Values

Daily the VIM volunteers are learning to live the Felician College Core Values. Everyday the volunteers have an academic hour. On Saturday, May 24, the core value for the day was Respect for Human Dignity. After their first day of class with their students, we visited the Missionaries of Charity. Sister Clara Maria shared the sisters’ mission and provided an opportunity to interact with the poorest of the poor. The sisters care for women, men and children with special needs, as well as malnourished babies.

On Monday, March 26, the volunteers focused on Transformation. After class, the volunteers met Karolina, a young architect from Krakow, Poland, who has been living in Haiti for two year. She shared how living with and in other cultures has transformed her life.

We, too, can witness that, in meeting all the people who come to our home, our lives are transformed.
